THE FRONT STEPS PROJECT
An opportunity to be photographed by a professional photographer AND donate to a worthy cause
Thank you for being part of the Front Steps national project! Photographers are donating their time and talent to photograph families and donate to local non-profits.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, families are spending unprecedented amounts of time together while following the “stay at home” directive. Searching for a way to put my expertise to use for the greater good, I was inspired by the “Front Steps Project,” where photographers nationwide document families in front of their houses, from apartment windows, etc. As a photographer specializing in portraiture for decades, this sounded perfect. Taking the idea a step further, I’ve partnered with Foodshare, the Feeding America food bank serving Connecticut’s Hartford and Tolland Counties, to raise money for much-needed supplies to keep volunteers and clients safe.
Following CDC recommended physical distancing guidelines, I will use a long lens and protective gear during our 10-15 minute “Front Steps” photo session capturing your family in this historic moment in time. This session can be secured with a donation of $30 or more through the Foodshare website, here they will then inform me of the donation and you can pick a day/time, fill out the rest of the form and click the submit button below.
Let’s have fun – be casual, bring examples of how you’re occupying the time, or not, you choose. Because they’re risking their lives, Healthcare workers, EMTs and first-responders will be photographed for free.
Our purpose (in West Hartford, CT) is to rally our community ONLINE to support a local, deserving non-profit. Our intention in creating #TheFrontStepsProject was not to generate income for photographers, but rather to unite communities.
This is a great way to help Foodshare support its partner pantries in providing for the increased demand caused by the health and economic crisis. Additional supplies are needed including bags to put food in, gloves, and hand sanitizer.
More than 118,000 people struggle with hunger in Foodshare’s coverage area. In partnership with the food industry, donors, community leaders and volunteers, the organization works to maximize access to nutritious food and other resources supporting food security. Last year, Foodshare distributed more than 11 million meals to a network of 280 local partner programs including food pantries, shelters, and community kitchens.
